CSL Basketball Rules

CSL uses IHSAA basketball rules in governing all league and tournament games.  The following rules have been modified or added to fit CSL Basketball Leagues

NUMBER OF PLAYERS

Teams play with five players on the court.  Teams may start and finish a game with four players on the court.

SUBS

During the regular season teams may pick up players that are on another team's roster and have signed a waiver form for that specific league.

GAME CLOCK

The length of the game is forty minutes, divided into two (2) halves of twenty minutes with the clock running except for the last TWO (2) minute of the second half if the score is within 15 points.  The clock will run as a regulation clock during the final two minutes of the second half.  The clock will stop on all timeouts.  The clock will start after a time out once the ball is put into play.

FOULS

Each team will be in the bonus at seven team fouls and the double bonus at ten team fouls. Players will be removed with five fouls in any one game.  Players may be removed from a game or the league at the referee’s discretion for any malicious or intentional fouls with intent of harming another player.

DUNKING

Dunking is permitted, however any excessive hanging on the rim will result in a technical foul.  (You should immediately release the rim after a dunk, unless there is a player underneath you, in which you are avoiding landing on).

JERSEYS

T-shirts will be provided week two of the league.  We ask that all teams coordinate a color for their first week game, similar to the color of t-shirt they requested for the league.

JEWELRY
Players will not be permitted to play with jewelry including but not limited to knotted bandanas, hard billed hats, rings, watches, or earrings.

OVERTIME
Overtime periods will be five minutes each and the clock will not stop.  Each team will be awarded one timeout not to be carried over in each overtime period.  Playoff overtime clock will stop for free throws only during the final minute.

TIMEOUTS
Each team is awarded two timeouts per half and one timeout per overtime.ˇ Timeouts do not carry over.

LEAGUE POLICIES

FORFEITS:

CSL will provide a staff member on-site to assist players with any problems or questions they may have.

If your team forfeits a match during the season, the following rules apply:

First Offense: Loss of game.

Second Offense: Loss of game and staff reserves the right to remove team from playoffs.

Third Offense: Removal from the league.

Any team that forfeits more than once also forfeits any guarantee or right to a certain number of guaranteed games.

If you know in advance that your team is going to forfeit a game, we encourage you to email the league manager so as to help us schedule your opponent a game.

Teams may play more than one match per day, and/or play matches on days/nights other than your regularly scheduled league day/night. CSL reserves the right to schedule playoff games on days other than your regularly scheduled league night.

Any questions regarding rules, policies, or eligibility must be addressed before the start of the game.

STANDINGS:

The updated standings will be posted weekly, displaying each teams rank within its skill level.

PLAYOFFS:

Playoffs are single-elimination. Playoffs will take up to 2 weeks to complete.

WAIVERS:

In order to participate in the league, each participant must sign the team waiver. Waivers are provided and must be completed and handed in no later than the first night of play. Players not present the first week of play will still be required to sign a waiver with our staff before participating. These waivers will also serve as your final roster.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY:

Any protest made during a game or after a game will NOT be considered a formal protest.  A formal protest may be filed before a game if an opposing player’s eligibility is in question. The player in question will be required to provide his/her player information (ID) in person to a CSL staff member prior to the start of the game. This qualifies as an official protest and only applies to the playoffs. The game will then be played in its entirety as scheduled. Teams will be notified of all rulings on the identified eligibility discrepancy by the following business day – decisions will not be made on site. If the protest is proven to be legitimate, it will result in the forfeiture of the game in question. Games subsequent to the protested game may be rescheduled.
The above procedure will also apply for any other “logged” protests. All protest need to happen prior to any match/game starting, otherwise the match/game will stand as a legal match. All rulings by CSL staff are considered final. Substitutes are allowed during the regular season, but only roster players are allowed for the playoffs.  Any player(s) who has a season ending medical condition, moves away, or has another circumstance deem able for a substitute player must be approved by sending a formal email to sports@playcsl.com.

SPORTSMANSHIP:

The idea of CSL is to have fun. We hope that all participants keep that in mind when becoming involved. Although the games may become intense, you still can be competitive while maintaining good sportsmanship. With this said, any behavior deemed unacceptable by staff may result in suspension and/or ejection from a game or the league.

To coordinate and run the league, our refs and/or staff will be available at all times to help the league run as smoothly as possible. If you have questions regarding schedules, policies, rule interpretations, directions to the bar, etc. please ask or call our office.

LEAGUE CANCELLATION/RAINOUT:

Leagues may be cancelled due to existing weather conditions, dangerous or unplayable field conditions, facility constraints, scheduling conflicts, etc. CSL staff makes every effort to play all scheduled games, thus we will not cancel games unless absolutely necessary. Therefore, if you are calling concerning a decision on a cancellation, remember we will not have an answer until close to the start of the league.

If the league is cancelled, CSL staff will send notice by email and/or text participants involved in said league.  CSL will then email/text all of the captains if possible. If a league is cancelled on site, CSL staff will attempt to contact those teams still scheduled to play the remainder of the league day/night. Depending on the time of cancellation, some teams will have to be notified on site. In extreme circumstances, CSL reserves the right to run a shortened season without a refund or schedule matches on days and/or locations other than our regularly scheduled league day/night/location.
